The District Award of Merit was presented at the Saugahatchee District Banquet on March 3, 2011. The Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. Two awards are presented annually at the Saugahatchee District Banquet. It is intended to honor volunteer adult leaders who have rendered outstanding service at the district level. The honorees for this year are Julie Hoff who serves as a Webelos den leader for Pack 356 in Beauregard, Assistant Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner and is preparing for her third year as Camp Director of the Cub Scout Twilight Camp in June. Hilliard Gibbs is the scoutmaster of Troop 373 and Committee Chair of Pack 373 in Opelika. He also serves as District Advancement Chair and head of the Eagle Scout Board of Review. In 2010, Gibbs was selected for induction into the BSA National Hall of Leadership in recognition of his nearly forty years of service to scouting.
