2008 District Award of Merit

The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils.

The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level.

The award is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 25 traditional units or fraction thereof. The district need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year.  It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter who has already received this award.

A professional Scouter or other council employee may not receive this award based on employment service. However, a professional Scouter or employee who also serves as a volunteer Scouter may be eligible, based on volunteer service.

To nominate a Scouter for the 2009 District Award of Merit. Download this form and send it to Randy Smith by February 1, 2009 to present to the Review Committee.

Award recipients for 2008 are Bob Head, past District Executive, and Ken Sullivanne. View official Press Release HERE:

On Thursday, March 6, 2008, Lee County Saugahatchee District Scout Leaders gathered at Auburn United Methodist Church to present a variety of prestigious awards to scouting leaders in recognition of all the hard work and dedication they have contributed this past year. Many scouting units were represented and received awards at the Banquet, coordinated by District Activities Director, Julie Stanley. Shown in the photo are the recipients of the highest award that a District Scout Leader can receive, the District Award of Merit. The recipients were selected by a nomination committee chaired by Bob Edwards. Receiving the Award of Merit for 2008 are Bob Head and Ken Sullivanne.

Randy Smith was the recipient of the Commissioner of the Year award. Commissioners provide District support to Troops and Packs and are the liason between the Unit and the District..

Bob Head has served as District Chairman for the past two years, in addition to having previously been a major contributor in other District areas of responsibilities, including Roundtable Commissioner coordinating monthly district meetings. Bob also held leader positions in Troop 29, currently as Assistant Scoutmaster, serves on Chattahoochee Council committees and is an accomplished rifle marksman and historian, assisting scouts with his expertise on the rifle range. Bob completed Woodbadge in 2003, participated in the Philmont High Adventure Expedition 2005, and is involved in Order of the Arrow, which is composed of Scouting’s top Boy Scout youth and leaders.

Ken Sullivanne holds the position of Committee Chair for Troop 7 and Pack 800. He serves as Unit Commissioner for other units in the Saugahatchee District, assists tirelessly in Cubmaster duties with his wife, Susan, in Pack 800, coordinates the District Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, Summer Cub Scout Day Camp, and has served as Den Leader and many other Pack and District leadership positions over the years. Ken is also a proud parent of two scouting sons, including an Eagle Scout .
